Make your own delicious white loaf with this easy peasy recipe, I've been making it with a mixer which makes it really quick and simple too :)

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Put flour, butter, salt and yeast (salt and Yeast at opposite sides) in a mixing bowl, gently mix together with a spoon, or mix on a low setting with your mixer and dough hook.
  2. Add a little water (and oil) at a time, mixing with your hands, or gently with the mixer, until the dough is sticking together nicely and you have scraped all of the flour from the sides of the bowl. You may not need all of the water so just stop adding if you feel it is getting sticky. Then knead the dough by hand until it feels smooth and elastic, if using a mixer put the power up to low - medium and let it knead the dough with the hook for a few minutes. It should feel smooth and elastic. Once you are happy line a bowl with a little olive oil, place the dough in and cover with a tea towel. Place it somewhere warm and allow to double in size - approx an hour.
  3. Once your dough has doubled in size, knock it back again on a lightly floured surface, then shape the dough - into a circle, or oblong, whatever you prefer :) - and place on a lightly floured baking tray. Cover with a tea towel and allow to double in size somewhere warm again. It may take 30mins to an hour.
  4. Preheat the oven at this stage, to 200c, once the dough is ready, place in the oven and bake until it is golden and risen. To check it is ready you can remove from the tray and tap the bottom, it should sound hollow. Now place on a baking tray to cool, or tuck in right away with some lovely melty butter!
